'Learn It, Cook It, Live It'. The community cooking and learning together in Abergavenny.
Our aim is to provide a resource in the heart of the Abergavenny, where community members of all ages can 'learn it, cook it, live it'. We aim to educate members of the community by providing a range of cooking workshops and qualifications focussing on the Catering Industry in Monmouthshire.
All systems go! Pledge targets have been reached!
We are looking to develop two existing rooms at Abergavenny Youth and Community Centre into a multi-use Kitchen where both young people and adults will be able to learn and gain qualifications in food hygiene, food preparation, catering and hospitality.
Working in partnership with Monmouthshire Community Learning and its groups of learners, Monmouthshire’s Pupil Referral Unit and EDEXEL we will be able to deliver Basic Food Hygiene qualifications alongside various BTEC’s in Catering and Hospitality. For young people being educated outside of school we will be delivering Jamie Oliver's programme 'Jamie's Home Cooking Skills Btec Course'.
We aim to involve both young people and community members in the running of the kitchen to encourage them to use their skills to provide basic nutricious meals for the 300+ Adult education Learners using the building on a weekly basis. This enterprise will help maintain the project and ensure its sustainability. With the catering and hospitality industry being large employer of Young People in Monmouthshire aged 16-25, we feel there is a gap in the market for a quality community kitchen training enterprise.
